Transforming Idle Rural Houses into Homestays in Huizhou’s Ancient Villages: A TALC-Based Case Study of Nanping Village, Yixian County

Abstract: This study, based on the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) theory, examines the phased transformation of idle rural houses into homestays in Nanping Village, Huizhou. It analyzes the interactions among heritage preservation, community participation, and ecological constraints within the “production–living–ecology” framework. Findings indicate that the “homestay+” model effectively revitalized idle assets and provided a measurable evaluation tool. However, issues of homogenization and cultural dilution remain. To address these, a spatial governance strategy of “core restriction–buffer coordination–peripheral empowerment” is proposed as a scalable model for protective revitalization.
