A Study on the Application of Blockchain Technology in Higher Education Credit Authentication and Evaluation

Abstract: With the popularization of the lifelong learning concept and the diversification of higher education models, traditional higher education credit authentication and evaluation systems face severe challenges in inter-institutional recognition, data credibility, and academic qualification anti-forgery. Issues such as data silos, cumbersome authentication processes, and easily forged certificates severely restrict the free flow of talent and the effective integration of educational resources. This paper aims to explore the potential of blockchain technology in solving these problems. It first analyzes the core dilemmas of the current credit authentication system and then elaborates on how core technologies like blockchain, Decentralized Identity (DID), and Verifiable Credentials (VC) can reconstruct the trust mechanism in the education sector. Based on this, the paper designs and proposes an innovative higher education credit management model based on a consortium blockchain architecture and the DID/VC standards. Through a layered architecture, a hybrid data storage strategy, and core business processes driven by smart contracts, this model aims to build a student-centered, data-sovereign, secure, trustworthy, efficient, and interconnected ecosystem for credit authentication and evaluation. Finally, the paper deeply analyzes the application value of the model and discusses the challenges and future directions it faces in terms of technology, policies, regulations, and ecosystem construction. The research indicates that the DID/VC-based blockchain model can fundamentally solve the trust and efficiency bottlenecks of traditional systems, providing a feasible technical path for building globally interconnected lifelong learning records and promoting educational equity.
